After the death of his only family member who communicated with him, Victor struggled to keep up with his brother‘s house payments, and found himself homeless He made an abandoned train cart his home until a group of teenagers destroyed everything he had, stabbed him in the arm, and physically abused him. To this day he still remains homeless and lives on the streets in his cardboard box that he calls his “home” (Victorl), Homelessness in America is at fault for the thousands of lives that have been unfairly taken, with volunteering, donating, and respect, homelessness can become less of an issue in the world today.

Volunteering, whether it be at a homeless shelter or a nonprofit organization, is a great way to help with homelessness. Homeless shelters mainly provide food, shelter, and clothing for those who are unfortunate. Preparing the food that will be served is one way to help out at a local shelter, serving the meals that are provided also puts forth as volunteering. An issue with volunteering is that it does require time out your day. If you are busy already then volunteering may not be the best option for you because a normal volunteer day consists of working hours at a timer The shelters need as much volunteer help as they can get because they do not have the funds to pay for more employees. Local food pantries are nonprofit organization that provide food and health supplies for the poorr The food is normally provided by local businesses such as Meijer’s ripples.

Children as young as ten years old can volunteer as long as they have a parent or guardian with them (Food 1) Volunteering at a food pantry can ensure that a homeless person receives a well-deserved dinner and to ensure that they go to sleep with a full stomach, not an empty one. Donating is another important and strong solution to homelessness. One way is by donating money to homeless shelters, charities, or organizations that involve homelessness. Another way to donate is to clean out your closet and go through the clothes that you do not wear anymore and donate them to a clothing drive or Goodwill, The Salvation Army is a popular clothing drive church organization that has been building businesses all around the United States to help homelessness. These organizations get hundreds of donations at a time which means that some of the food supply will be sitting awhile before anyone can take it home to be used. Showing respect towards the homeless is the last and most valuable way to fight the issue. A person can show respect by sitting down and having a conversation, handing out clothes, food, or even praying for them, Having a conversation will make them feel important, and that they matter in this world despite their circumstances. Not only does this make them feel meaning, but it can change ones perspective and influence others to do the same. Homeless people who live on the streets can suffer from severe weather and starvation. You can gather up blankets that you don’t use and hand them out to the people who live on the streets Also, if you see a homeless person or family on the street, you could go to a store nearby and buy something for them to eat.

Volunteering and donating also deals with respect, it is giving a helping hand and shows the respect that you have for the unfortunate. Citizens are often scared by the “sketchy" appearance that a homeless person might have, they are often avoided because of their raggedy clothes and dirty complexion. They fear that the homeless may beg for food, or try to take their purses and wallets for the money inside. Many don’t understand why they should give the money that they worked hard to earn to the people who would have their own, had they ever tried hard enough, This may be the case, but not all people become homeless because of a lack of willingness. A person can find themselves homeless because of a loss of family member or any other issues that are completely out of their control. The homeless are still human like you and I and they deserve respect and acknowledgement.

Many people would accuse someone of being “crazy” or “brave“ to be able to walk up to a homeless person in the first place. If someone were to confront me about my opinion of being social with the homeless, I would start off with “they are just humans, not a dangerous animal" Nobody knows their circumstances, so why should we judge at first sight or think of them any less Sure you have worked hard for your money, so why not give some to those who can‘t do the things that others can do. The homeless are humans and deserve respect, different people have different scenarios and their homelessness may not even be there fault. They may not ever have the chance to be as successful as the people who walk past them, but we can show them that they do matter. Volunteering, donating, and having respect are three efficient ways to help towards the issue of homelessness.

These helpful solutions will change the future opinions that people have on the homeless. It will change people’s opinions because when someone sees another person doing something good, it makes them want to do something good too. People are always watching each other and will always have something to say about it, so why not do something positive and it have a good outcome? If a neighborhood shows respect towards the homeless, the word will spread and next thing you know the neighborhood next to it will start doing the same Videos and pictures are posted on social media when people see others doing good for the homeless, this is just another way that will spread the word and help towards the issues. The next Lime you see a homeless person, sit down and talk to them, or the next time there is an opportunity to help out do it, because this is what will change the world that we live in today.
