Within three weeks, as a freshman college student, taking an learning strategy class, I had discovered many factors of myself that I had no idea I had obsessed. My definition of learning strategy is an personal way how a anyone can discover what is their best way to learn and store many more information in their brains. Over the I had took many tests that can determine my learning style and personality: LASSI, Human Jung Typology Test, and VARK Learning Assessment. In this paper, I would explain what is the above tests are, what my score was on them, and how did it relate to me.

The LASSI (The Learning and Study Strategies Inventory) was created to determine one’s learning and study practices. By doing this, one has to answer 80 questions based on their knowledge. Based on my results to the LASSI score, I need to work on all the LASSI subcategories (Anxiety, Attitude, Concentration, Information Processing, Motivation, Self-testing, Selecting Main Ideas, Study Aids, Time Management, and Test Strategies). I had scored below a 50th percentile in the LASSI test which mean I will have a serious problem of succeeding in college. This makes sense to me because throughout my years in high school, I had a hard time of learning because I take everything for granted and because I have ADD/ADHD which make it very hard for me to learn. I have been through summer school all throughout grammar school and high school. But, I never could find a way that will help me to be a better learner and studier because out of everything I tried; I never found the right one that can help me in a comfortable way.

In addition, I had took a test called “The Human Jung Typology Test”. This is a test that characterize people into four criterias (Extroversion-Introversion, Sensing-Intuition, Thinking-Feeling, and Perceiving-Judging). Extroversion-Introversion is described as how a person directs their energy. Sensing-Intuition is described as how a person receives information. Thinking-Feeling is how a person process information. Finally, Perceiving-Judging is how a person using information they obtain. When I was done with the “Human Jung Typology” test, my results said that I was ESTP (40% of Extraversion ,38% of Sensing, 1% of Thinking, and 22% of Perceiving). My results also said that I have a moderate preference of Extraversion over Introversion, I have a moderate preference of Sensing over Intuition, I have a marginal or no preference of Thinking over Feeling, and I have a slight preference of Perceiving over Judging.

Joe Butt described ESTP as, “ESTPs are spontaneous, active folks…ESTPs get great satisfaction from acting on their impulses. Activities involving great power, speed, thrill and risk are attractive to the ESTP… a natural drive to best the competition”. This fit my personality because I am an active person. I would say this best describe me because of my ADHD, but when Joe Butt said, “ESTPs look for nonverbal, nearly subliminal cues as to what makes their quarry “tick”. Once they know, they wait for just the right time to trump the unsuspecting victim’s ace and glory in their conquest. Oddly enough, ESTPs seem to admire and respect anyone who can beat them at their own game”. That is very true because I see in a competition there is no room for a fight.

Finally, the VARK Learning Assessment Data is a questionnaire on how one can determine their learning preferences on how they receive information and how they distribute information. My results from the VARK Learning Assessment Data questionnaire is that I have a multimodal learning preference which I think is true. A person with a multimodal learning preference takes longer to process information than others. I believe that is a good thing and bad. It is a good thing because that works best for me. But, it is also bad because I might be able to be stuck in a problem that requires less time than usual and just waste time.

In conclusion, I now have an idea how my learning style is. And if I do not fix it, it would be very hard for me to be successful in college. I am already seeing some bad results as a college freshman. From this point forward, I need to find out a way to have a learning style that is comfortable with me, so I could be successful.
