Program with a specialization in Industrial Psychology in the Lewis College of Human Sciences at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Jonathan was a research assistant in my lab, at the time I was working as a visiting professor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and a student for several courses which I instructed. His performance in both regards was noteworthy. In the four years I have come to know Jonathan as a scholar and a researcher we have discussed his interest in applied psychology, his career goals, and aspirations on a great number of occasions. He has consistently expressed an interest in pursuing an advanced degree and shown a persistent dedication to developing the logical reasoning and research skills common to both the study of science and its application outside the lab.
It is worth mentioning that Jonathan performed very well academically in the courses I instructed. His preparation and level of interest in class made him stand out. He also has an outstanding ability to hold engaging conversations about complex topics that other students find overwhelming. Overall, I believe he is a dedicated scholar and researcher who will succeed at his long-term goals in psychology. Among the students who have conducted research projects under my supervision, Jonathan was the most far along in constructing a suitable method for testing a specific scientific hypothesis when he chose me to be his mentor. The level of independence he showed convinced me that it was worth my time to work with him and that we would both learn from each other.
His understanding of research methods was advanced enough that typically in planning sessions we would discuss the benefits and constraints of various decisions to be made in the research. He quickly earned my trust to the point he could make the final calls on his own. After he completed his project, we attended a conference together in Chicago to present the research. He did an excellent job preparing and defending his research at the conference and showed an uncanny ability to network and make new connections in a professional atmosphere. His performance and accomplishments have brought honor to both our department and our university.

Across situations, Jonathan has demonstrated both the intellectual curiosity and the willingness to work to get answers that I feel are the cornerstones of becoming an excellent graduate student. In light of this information, I view his potential for being successful at the Illinois institute of technology as very high. Of the many students I have instructed within the past five years, Jonathan is among the top 1% when considering his enthusiasm and personally dedication to pursue answers through hard work and research. His accomplishments as an undergraduate student and more recently in the non-profit sector have prepared him well for the next exciting step of his education.
