Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder represent by experience of uncontrolled binge eating. Binge eating involving large amounts of high-calorie foods, followed by induced: vomiting, using laxatives, diuretics to purge or cleanse the body of the food eaten during the binge. An estimated thirty percent of high school and college age girls use this method to stabilize their weight. This turns into a fixed pattern of conduct. The binge eating and purging are carried out in secret; therefore, the disease may go undetected for many years. Bulimia is a serious psychological and medical problem with dangerous complications.

The causes of bulimia are most often psychological in nature, and events of binging are often stress related. Binging is a way by which a person with bulimia attempts to control emotions. It allows the person to look away from unhappy or uncomfortable emotional problems. Feeling calm with emptiness their stomach after binging. Many people who suffer with bulimia come from families in which they were physical or sexual abuse. Many women started their first binge, because of real or imagined male rejection. Others are perfectionists and over achievers with high standards but low self-esteem. If a womans basic emotional needs are know that she believe that she is beautiful and not worry about how thin she is. This disorder affects women more than men, especially those in professions that stress appearance, such as modeling, acting, or dancing. Obsession with weight can also result from social factors.

In todays society, we are shown that thin is in- and the thinner the better. As many as one in eight girls between the ages of thirteen and nineteen, including many college students, may have an eating disorder. Most bulimia have tried every type of diet, read all the diet books, and at one time taken diet pills. People with bulimia are obsessed with exercise to control weight. There are many different medical reasons for this eating disorder. For example; people with eating disorders tend to have a type of chemical imbalance similar one found in a persons with depression. Both have high levels of adrenocorticotropic hormone, a hormone produced by the pituitary gland that inhibits T cell function and thereby depresses immunity.

People who suffer from bulimia may also have low levels of the neurotransmitter serotonin, which can lead to cravings for simple carbohydrates- common binge foods. People with bulimia can hide the disorder for long periods, even years, because their weight is usually in the normal range and binging and purging is done in secret. There are many physical signs of bulimia. For example, bulimia has many symptoms; low heart rate, constant heartburn, or irregular heartbeats, and may even go into cardiac arrest. They suffer from dehydration, fainting spells, insomnia, tremors, blurred vision, and swollen cheek glands these are just a few things. People with bulimia often feel guilty about their behavior, that why, they are successfully on hide the disorder for years, even from their love ones. Bulimia is a serious disease and it in many cases turns deadly. Each case is different, but every case is dangerous.

Bulimia is a serious psychological and medical problem with dangerous complications. I think that people should take it more seriously and realize that many people around them may have bulimia. We all see beautiful skinny people every day in magazines and on television, and we want to look like them. The media gives us this picture of the ideal person and most of us automatically think to ourselves that this is how we are to look. Our attitudes are unhealthy and can ruin our physical and mental health. Bulimia is serious it kills. We need to accept our self the way we are. Plain and simple we have to love our self, for who we are and what we look like.
