The qualities that many people can have sometimes reflect on how the person represent themselves. The most common perception that is looked upon is the physical appearance of a person. This can be a contrastive idea to how the look of a person overshadows the inner beauty that one may have. When deciding on the comparing factors about beauty, there are usually two major factors that people understand about beauty. Both characteristics of inner and outer beauty play pivotal roles in first impressions, jobs, social status, and even friendships.

In current times, society sees that the portrayal of outer and inner beauty has distorted the way people look at each other. The physical and inner depiction of beauty have not only changed the way people live their lives, but also takes a great effect of how most represent themselves. The distinction between inner and outer beauty has not only been the factor to how people choose to live their lives, but if one chooses to leave out the influence of media and judgments of others, one can pertain to the idea that these two characteristics of beauty can also be lived simultaneously.

Drastically over the past few decades the meaning of beauty has changed with the outer beauties through media. Today, we see that the implication to have a thin figure, nice looking hair, skin, teeth, have become the ideal of what a "normal" woman should look like. The advertisement for physical beauty has also affected not only women but men as well. With the American male population, it's seen through social media that having big muscles, nice clothes and what not makes the exceptional male and how every other man should resemble.

This type of display that is seen or heard through television influences our younger generation, which causes exploitation to the feature of outer beauty. Many people struggle on a daily basis to try reach this 'perfection'. People try to cheat and take other dangerous routes such as plastic surgery, which can lead to lifelong problems and even death. Outer beauty is also a big part of judgments from others, which is a very big part in culture. These qualities have no only dammed the influenced, but have leaded them to a dangerous unhealthy lifestyle.

Inner beauty is the distinction to how a person truly feels about himself or herself, which reflects back to society. The meaning of inner beauty is what happens to make the person feel comfortable with their physical appearances. It defines what is beautiful and underneath the physical pressure to look perfect. Having inner self-esteem positively gives a person the notion to feel physically beautiful, without the pressure of society and its judgments.

Inner beauty can be more extravagant than what is on the outside, but this can only be true if people understand the time to appreciate the distinctions to what makes a person truly beautiful. "Beauty is the only element wherewith the soul is organically connected, and it has no other standard of judgment.... There needs but so little to encourage beauty in our soul; so little to awaken the slumbering angels; or perhaps is there no need of awakening it is enough that we lull them not to sleep" (Maeterlinck 75).

Physical and inner beauties are similar in some ways. For example, if someone is beautiful on the outside but a very terrible person on the inside, that is considered just physical beauty, but they could be both if they chose to be. A person can be both physically and inner beautiful if they set high standards and have good character, but no matter how fat, skinny, ugly or beautiful if they have a beautiful heart then their inner beauty will reflect and create the beauty physically. The price to pay to look attractive is what tarnishes the similarity with the length of what many go through just to obtain one characteristic of beauty, which they feel everyone must notice.
