The book Farewell to Manzanar written by James D. Houston and Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston, is a book about a Japanese concentration camp in the U.S. The book tells the story of a girl and her family in a place called Manzanar and the conditions they had to go through. The book Night by Elie Wiesel, is a book about the Jewish people taken from their homes and thrown into a death camp in Auschwitz. This book mainly tells the story of a young man growing up in a place filled with animosity and death. Jeanne Wakatsuki lived a bit more civilized, while Elie Wiesel lived in the most inhumane way possible.
Jeanne is comfortable with her family in Manzanar, while Elie is uncomfortable in Auschwitz. Jeanne sort of felt at home when with her family. She never complained and had a carefree attitude upon arriving at Manzanar. She expressed her view that the camp is more of an adventure than it is a hardship. Elie was very uncomfortable in the situation he was in. He instantly felt disbelief. Although Elie's life at the camp was miserable, he accepted that it was going to be his new lifestyle.
Jeanne adapted to her living conditions in Manzanar, because of the resources that were made available within the camp, Elie's lifestyle had a major lack of privacy, and obviously thought he had no control over it. Jeanne had some discomfort with the lack of privacy, overcrowding and among other things throughout the camp. Soon she adapted with the lifestyle as objects were used to improve privacy and made living easier in Manzanar. Elie's knew his privacy would be no more and knew that he could do nothing of the sort to fix his problems, because people at the camp were not provided with resources. Although Elie's life at the camp was miserable, he accepted that it was going to be his new lifestyle.

Elie shares emotion when in Auschwitz, while Jeanne is happily living like normal. Elie feels numbness when standing next to the fire where small children are being dumped alive. Lifestyles improved at Manzanar and was Jeanne was at ease because of having a little more privacy, but Elie's lifestyle still did not improve and he was miserable. Elie's feelings never improved from the beginning when he first had arrived, Jeanne adapted and eventually was content with the opportunities she had in Manzanar. No matter what, concentration camps are both inhumane and have a very harsh impact on one's life. And expressed her view that the camp is more.
