First impression of Louise Gluck was wow is she considering herself as an angel? I felt like I was reading pieces out of my Sunday school stories we went over, but after rereading the poem multiple times. I realize that she’s talking about a flower and how we may look at it being so symbolic to us and those who have fought for our country. Also, the relationship Red Poppy has with death and how we may view eternal life but also how the Poppy itself views eternal life I say this because in the poem it seemed like that the Poppy was talking to himself when he stated I have a lord in heaven called the sun, and open for him, showing him the fire of my own heart, fire like his presence. I think the Red Poppy say this as the sun is his source of energy and its how he develops into such beauty.
In You Who Never Arrived I felt deeply moved as it tugged at my heart strings. The first part of the poem spoke to me as loneliness and the love I lost years ago. It reminded me off all the emotions I felt. Rilke’s poem spoke on how he struggled to find love and how love maybe extremely close to him but just not within his reach. He even stated on how it was lost before it even started with his line of You who never arrived in my arms, Beloved, who were lost from the start.
This reminded me of how I felt when I miscarried years ago being so attach to someone, I wasn’t able to meet but felt so much love to that person. He makes it seems that whatever he does is because of this person and they are the reason why he feels so alive and hopes to one day meet this person. In the end of reading this poem I felt as though he was travelling all over the world to find his love because he talks about the person vanishing. Streets that I chanced upon, you had just walked down them and vanished. This poem gives me hope of one day being able to reconnect with myself and my first love before it all went south, and hate grew, and love faded.

In the last piece A house is not a home it reminded me a lot of my mother as she always said that. In the beginning of this piece the author expresses trying to show affection to his friends’ wife and getting hit by both of them. This made me wonder was it the alcohol that made him think it was appropriate to try this with his friend’s wife or had he secretly had some sort of feelings for her and got the courage because he was somewhat drunk. The poem overall touches many areas a lot of us aren’t willing to discuss like lusting over others, friendships and betrayal. I enjoyed that he writes in a way anyone can relate and it’s not confusing to readers like other authors who try to be creative and do multiple themes that don’t make sense but rather makes it clear.
