In the novel Lolita, by Vladimir Nabokov, the main character Humbert Humbert develops feelings for his wife's daughter, Lolita, despite him being an adult and her being a 12 year old girl. Humbert feels that when she exposes frustration with him she brings the situation to a sexual level, even though she is young. I believe that Humbert Humbert is at his own fault for getting feelings for Lolita, but Lolita doesn't act like she isn't interested him, which causes Humbert to completely fall for her.
It all started Lolita Lolita's mother died, Lolita and Humbert went traveling around the country, and it is said that Humbert and Lolita would stay in the same bed, and would also cuddle with each other. After these events, Humbert tells Lolita that he doesn't want her to see other boys, but Lolita doesn't listen and constantly flirts with other boys because she likes too. The fact that Lolita doesn't fully commit to Humbert slowly kills him on the inside as the story plays itself out. Also, Humbert would have sex with her in these beautiful outdoor locations and the more sex the two had together, the more Humbert drew attached to her.
Humbert and Lolita end up settling in the town of Beardsley, and Humbert has a job at the Beardsley Women's College, but he wastes all his thoughts on Lolita and the next sexual encounter they will have. His obsession for her gets so extreme that he terrorizes Lolita into staying with him. Even though Lolita would cry herself to sleep at night, Humbert never thought of letting Lolita go.

Now that their relationship has been established through their actions for each other, the two main reasons should be stated as to why there are reasons to blame on Humbert Humbert, and reasons to blame on Lolita for this crazy relationship. The first reason is that in today's modern world, Humbert Humbert would be considered a sex addict and a pedophile. Originally, Humbert's plan was to drug Lolita and just lay with her while she slept. That plan gives off a feeling that Humbert has some sort of evilness to who he is as a person. Also, Humbert enjoys the ideas of having sex with very young girls and probably have sex with any girl despite their age because he is that obsessed with it. So clearly Humbert has a whole lot of mental problems to be the way he is.
The main reason why Lolita is at fault for the relationship with Humbert is because Lolita didn't have self-respect for herself. The fact that Lolita's mother didn't love her, and that she didn't have a good role model to look up, caused her to seduce herself into the only pleasure she knew, which was sex. Lolita wasn't shy at all about sex or acting sexual to Humbert or to any other guy. That was her way of feeling good about herself. Lolita was good at acting like he was this innocent young girl, but Lolita had experienced sex at a young age, so she knew what she was doing when she would flirt with Humbert. In today's world, Lolita would be called names like "slut" and "whore", but Humbert wanted to be blind to that and think she would only be flirtatious towards him. Lolita thought that being outgoing with guys was good, but other boys would just see her as someone they could mess around with and then move on, never anything real.
In conclusion, the combination of Humbert's inability to see the reality of who Lolita really is, and that Lolita is very open with her sexual behavior, led to this relationship having very little hope. Humbert fell victim to Lolita because he loved the fact that she was having sex with him, and over time, the only reason he wanted Lolita around was mainly for sex.
