What is the main thesis/theme of this chapter? Lewis focuses mainly on the reluctance people have on forgiving others. But Lewis asserts that forgiveness is essential to Christian religion.

What are the main arguments the author presents in defending his/her position? I feel. Christianity tells people to carry no hate for others. If they do, then by their human nature they are sinful. Lewis wants people to hate sin and focus more on on hope for the person who wronged us. This argument follows similar to the notion hate the sin not the sinner.

What view/position does the author reject or critique in this chapter? Lewis recognizes many people will preach forgiveness but they will not act it out in their own lives.

Smart people can stop the notion of forgiveness and from a distance it sounds possible, but when it is time to practice it, people rarely do.

What objections does the author consider in this chapter against his/her position? Lewis considers the limits of forgiveness as seen by the example of the impossibility of a Jew to forgive a Nazi. No one would expect the Jew to forgive a Nazi, hence the limit of forgiveness. 6. Are the author’s responses to the objections he/she considers weak or strong? Lewis's response is that forgiveness is still essential. As God has forgiven us all our transgressions, she has no limits on forgiveness. Therefore we must do the same with others. I do agree with Lewis in that forgiveness is one of the hardest things to surrender control to. Yet we are called as Christians to bear the likeness of God, who is the ultimate forgiver.

What are the main arguments the author presents in defending his/her position? Luis refers back to Satan‘s fall and Adam and Eve’s sin against God. For Satan, he anted to be more powerful than God. For Adam and eve, they wanted to stand out from God. Each of these instances shown pride and the characters.

What view/position does the author reject or critique in this chapter? Lewis critiques those who believe they are honoring God but rather they are being tempted by the devil and worshipping themselves instead.

What reasons does the author give for his/her rejection of the position stated in # 3? Ultimately some people can use Christianity as an excuse to uplift themselves. However Lewis offers a solution to this, humility, a killer of pride.

What objections does the author consider in this chapter against his/her position? Lewis considers the position of those who say that pride is not bad, it is just being proud of what they have done or what others have done.
