“If the Internet has been called a great democratizer, perhaps what social media has done is let anyone enter the beauty pageant. Teens can cover up pimples, whiten teeth, and even airbrush with the swipe of a finger, curating their own image to become prettier, thinner, and hotter.” This was quoted by Rachel Simmons. Social media affects us all in different ways. Whether it’s in a negative or positive way of view. Some teens let it ruin their self-esteem while some let it build theirs and let it flourish.
The Girl Scouts of America did a survey research and concluded that 74% of the girls used social media to make themselves appear and look cooler. Sadly, this is so true with many teens I personally know. Whether it’s girls, or boy’s social media can be a mask we can all hide behind. Which can and will be a very toxic environment. Not only can social media ruin your self-esteem to make you feel not enough it can also decrease your grade in school!
Daily Mail of Britain, done a survey by Netherlands psychologist Paul A. Kirshner of the Centre for Learning Sciences and Technologies at the Open University of the Netherlands, and Aaryn C. Karpinski of Ohio State University. The survey concluded that using social media can lower grades by 20%. That’s a vey drastic number! I can say this by personally observing and being a teen. When people do homework, their phone is with them 80% of the time! Social media can be very distracting and puncturing to our future and get us off track and not on an incline to our future! However, I do see how it can be very distracting. But it can also be very helpful to excel us into a career!

If you have a hardworking business ethic you can go anywhere in the entertainer social media influencer world! Many teens start gaining a following and turn it into a full-time celebrity business empire. The sky’s the limit. Anyone can become famous online. But due to my research, I’ve found that you can do whatever you want and get to wherever you want with the help of the internet!
Not only can you get a career of being a social media influencer and being famous! You can also get a “down to Earth job” as some common citizens call it. Through the help of professional social networking sites, such as LinkedIn, help companies find workers such as you! It makes getting an application and going to a job interview a historic site! When you can know just set up a Social media profile, put your qualities and degrees, the job you are looking for, and companies will be out running to get you to work for them! It’s the 21st century modern way of getting a professional job!
Social Media really brings out the lust in people. Whether you’re in a relationship or single its downright inappropriate. Cheating has gone up drastically since social media has made it so easy to communicate with people privately and behind others backs. It’s an estimate that 10% of affairs start online, and that 40% of online affairs take it to a real-life dating setting! That’s mid blowing and completely not right at all! Be loyal and use social media through the good standards and points of life!
Through my research I’ve found that social media affects everyone. Not only teens but many other generations ahead or below the teens in a very positive way! The boomer generation really benefits from this positive point. Say, for example, they are shut up in their homes. Through the help of Facebook Live Chat, Instagram Video Chat, or any other social media live chat software. They can easily communicate with their friends, family, and loved ones. Any one that’s shut in can communicate to anyone, anywhere in the world! Especially, right now in this pandemic! When there’s people in the hospital right now, no one can be with them! They don’t have to be alone though! Many social media platforms have come out with face to face interaction software. When people are feeling a little lonely. They can easily talk to anyone, anywhere in the whole entire world to ease their anxieties and nerves.
Back when there was no social media, it was hard to spread some words where everyone could be informed on a subject. Today, it’s easier than ever before. With the help of Facebook Timeline, Instagram Feed, Snapchat Stories, or Twitter trending hashtags news spreads very quickly! But when news spreads online to everyone for free. It really hurts the “old fashion” ways of getting information and news! Such as newspapers, radio channels, or just simply watching your small local news station. From 1973 to 2019 news-paper customers have nearly dropped by 50%! That’s a lot! It’s putting our local print and presses out of business, which all in all is slowly tearing down our economy!
The points I have brought up due to all my research are just pros and cons of the whole entire social media empire platform! There are many positives, and there are many negative as you can see. But, due to all my digging through statistics and drastically breaking it all down. I’ve concluded that social media’s confusing. There will never be a victor of whether teens participation in social media is good for them or its bad for them! It’s just not possible at least for me to come up with a clear winner. But, it’s here. We are all living in the social media lifestyle. Knowing the pros and cons of social media, we might as well as embrace the pros and live life not running away from the cons!
