Yaron explains the positive impact that ChemVLab+ has on the academic aspect of young scholars’ education. ChemVLab+ improves students learning abilities because of all the learning activities built into the software and allows them to effectively learn all the material needed. The authors state “ChemVLab+ activities address the difficulties of providing an interactive environment for students to engage with science practices by embedding the virtual lab experiments in self-contained instructional modules that provide support to both the students and the instructors”. This detail is extremely important to point out the positive impact ChemVLab+ can make on not only students but teachers as well.

On the other hand, the authors also state “Though the current study suggests that activities that use authentic contexts, engage students in science practices, prompt mapping between representations of the Johnstone’s triangle, and provide just-in-time feedback to help students learn chemistry, the design of the study limits the nature of the conclusions that we can draw”. In the journal article, “Methodology in Diagnostic Laboratory test Research in Clinical Chemistry and Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine,” authors Blanca, Lumbreras-Lacarra, Jose Manuel Ramos- Rincon, and Ildefonso Hernandez- Aguado discuss how epidemiologic concepts for clinical diagnosis have been underdeveloped compared to other clinical sections.

After assessing the different characteristics in articles discussing laboratory tests, they concluded that the first step to improvement is acknowledging the main defects affecting diagnostic laboratory research. The authors state that they “included articles that estimated indexes of diagnostic accuracy (sensitivity and specificity) and were published in Clinical Chemistry or Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine in 1996, 2001, and 2002” (Clinical Chemistry). They found that 79% satisfied the incorporated specifications. This percentage also increased from 1996 to 2002. A great amount of advancement was shown throughout the study in the aspect of diagnostic accuracy. In conclusion, the analysis displayed that Clinical Chemistry and Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine is “comparable” to the leading general medical journals.Julie Hood, a Michigan State professor, discusses plagiarism in her article “MSU professor plagiarized and is ‘guilty of misconduct,’ academic committee finds.”

She explains how Sharif Shakrani, a fellow Michigan State professor, plagiarized the work of Melissa Maynard. In her article “Still too many schools?” M. Maynard explains why she believes that combining schools would be beneficial. She thinks that by merging smaller schools to create bigger schools would save millions of dollars. Maynard also took her audience into consideration because most residents and faculty were not to enthused by this idea, by stating that this blending could potentially “save $65 million” (Maynard). In Sharif Shakrani’s article, “School District Consolidation Study In 10 Michigan Counties,” he also discusses merging smaller schools together to create larger schools. Shakrani used some of the same examples as Maynard did. For example, Maynard used the Maryland school districts as an illustration in her article and Shakrani did as well, which was the biggest indicator that he was plagiarizing other works.

Shakrani never dispensed credit of Maynard’s work, which is the main reason for his penalties. Shakrani has a team look over his case and past articles, but throughout the search, the team found that this was not the first piece of work that Shakrani has plagiarized. In fact, he had plagiarized multiple different articles to back up his claims. A representative from MSU, Kent Cassella, stated in his speech “Intellectual and research integrity are absolutely essential in an academic environment.” This is extremely important to this case because it explains how you should always give credit where credit is due no matter the circumstance. After Shakrani’s trial, he was found guilty and fired from his job at Michigan State University.
