Allow me to open your eyes. Shed light on the subject of poverty, things people think they know, what causes it, how it can affect people, and ideologies based around fixing it.
Imagine this, a morning trip on the bus to the local grocery store in Detroit. Upon paying for the goods, an EBT card (Food stamps) gets handed to the cashier. So I ask you. What does who is this person? Employed? Race? Gender? Many imagine a lazy black guy who is probably on unemployment too, because he doesn't work I personally thought of Eminem from the movie 8 mile. I would like to inform you that, most common ideas about Food stamps aren't true. Let us clear up some of those myths, as most people maybe including you. Think minorities mostly use food stamps, as well people who are unemployed, nor is it common for people to abuse the food stamp system. That stereotype you just connected to food stamps is not statistically accurate.
Why do people need food stamps? People can't afford the cost of living, and need help from the government. It's because they don't have a job, right? It could be that they don't have a job. Either they lost it because the business they worked for failed, or because their job got outsourced to somewhere in Asia. Or they weren't able to get a job in the first place. There are plenty of walls that prevent people from getting jobs: There isn't exactly an abundance of jobs, having a criminal record, race, or lack of work experience.

The main people affected are college graduates who are just entering the workforce, and war veterans, men and women who served this country. In all honesty, I think everybody deserves job opportunities, especially the college grads, and war veterans. Anyways, there's another reason that everybody seems to overlook when looking at poverty, is that mosy people on food stamps have jobs. According to those at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities more than half of people on food stamps, are working. Meaning that they have jobs, and they still can't afford to survive. Is that not the most outrageous thing you've ever heard?
What causes Poverty isn't the only thing we should be interested in, Poverty can also contribute to the growth of other social issues: Such as, Homelessness, crime, and depression, substance abuse, physical deprivations, like hunger/thirst, disease, and sometimes they die. Look at it this way, when somebody is not making enough money in a legitimately, why would they not commit crime to make the money they need to survive. I understand why people sell drugs, guns, their own bodies for Christ sake.
Plenty of people commit crimes to make the money they need, but it's not always enough. Many still lose their homes, so they lost their job and their home, what's left? People lose themselves, I've seen it first hand; I know people who have gone through this, It is one of the most depressing things I've ever witnessed. My friend was only 18 when his mom passed away, and then lost his job, and his shitty little apartment. He was living in his car. You know he didn't even tell me, he used to bum sum food off me every few days we chilled, sometimes some liquor from one of his other friends. He was a little on the chubbier side when we met, but after he lost his mom he lost some weight.
That's what made me realize that he lost his job and his apartment. I understood why he was embarrassed to tell me, and depressed that it had happened. Obviously I helped him out, but I know that shit was never going to be the same for him.
In my opinion, I think the system that American people live in is rigged. To help CEO's make more money and keep the poorer people from moving up. Looking at some of the things the American government is doing it blasphemous. Like supply side economics, that has got to be one of the worst ideas to be applied to our economy.
In case you don't know what that is, it is the government giving big companies tax cuts. Hoping that the companies can produce the products more cheaply, and circulate the money from the top of the chain all the way to all of its workers. The reason that this doesn't work is because CEO's are greedy, and most of those tax cuts go to offshore accounts, and used to buy more extravagant stuff for one of their many houses. A better solution would be, Demand side economics, which as it sounds is about the consumers in the United States of America. Giving the common people tax cuts so they have more money to spend.
