The movie Milk delivers what is expected of it and much more. The story behind this movie was not only very captivating, but it also allowed the audience to make a real-life connection with Harvey Milk and experience what he struggled with first-hand. When watching this movie you must have an open mind, this will allow you to experience how powerful Harvey Milk’s movement was to the LGBT community also with the combination of its cast, plot, and depiction, it is no wonder why the movie “Milk” got an Academy Award Winning picture. Besides that Harvey Milk undoubtedly makes you laugh, cry, think, and question what more you could be doing to help the people around you. Movies like this make me feel powerful like I can do anything I set my mind to but what I really love about this movie is that it shows you it doesn’t matter how old you are it is never too late to chase your dreams and achieve them.
In this case not only did Harvey achieve his dream but he changed history for the LGBT community forever. The plot of the movie is very well constructed as a sincere true story, with a perfect amount of humor sprinkled throughout, so that the storyline didn’t become too serious which they did a fantastic job doing. There were plenty of problems and obstacles to keep the storyline moving along, one of my favorite parts about the movie was how they included real clips of the movement throughout the movie. Especially at the end when they show what each character did and who they became after Harvey’s death. Not only did he inspire himself but he inspired everybody around him to follow their dreams and make their dreams a reality.
Harvey Milk throughout the movie sends a message saying as soon as you lose a battle, another one will appear before giving you a chance to win your first battle. You will always need to come back 10 times stronger and be willing to give it your all even if it means you might be killed over it. He proves to us that you must lose before you win, you must fall before you stand but most importantly you must never give up. Milk hits the nail on the head with the problems portrayed in this film. Harvey Milk was an individual who did not die to be forgotten but to “destroy every closet door”, when he said that during the movie I couldn’t help but shed a few tears knowing that people around us have to hide in fear for something that doesn’t affect anyone. Harvey's efforts in fighting for gay rights left an impact on the people of this world, but I think he would be happy to know that his movement has still lived on to this day and that people have not forgotten about who he was and what he did.

To Harvey Milk, he wasn’t just fighting for gay rights; he was fighting for a way of life that one day no one would ever make their citizens conform to just one social norm. I think Harvey would be pleased to know that the world we live in today it definitely improving and is making adjustments in society to make others feel comfortable and are slowly but surely are accepting others around us. Overall I’m really glad I got to watch the movie and get a sense of history I didn’t know about, it was not only a phenomenal movie but it did make me question how much more I could be doing in life, how I could change history if I really put my mind to it. I’ve already told quite a few people that they have to watch this movie just because of how moving it was.
