The American Dream, attainable by anyone, has inspired many people to do the impossible, or what they think is impossible. Throughout history people have moved to our beautiful country to try to be as successful as they possibly could be. I will tell you what "The American Dream" stands for, what makes it, and how we have seen it in English three this year.

"The American Dream" is the belief that anyone in America can be successful in anything they want to do through hard work and determination. The reason it's called "The American Dream" is because in The United States, we believe that all men are equal, and that no single man is better than anyone else. Unlike the U.S., other countries oppress their people and force them to do certain jobs or make it nearly impossible to make it out of the poverty stricken life that they are living. In the U.S., as long as you have the will to become successful, you will be. Many celebrities for example, Sylvester Stallone and Dwayne Johnson, were once broke with little to no funds, and made it to the top with their determination. Dwayne Johnson once said "In 1995, I had seven bucks in my pocket and knew two things: I'm broke as hell, and one day I won't be" (Best Motivation Quotes). This shows the kind of mindset a person needs to have while attempting to achieve the American Dream as it won't be easy, but it would be worth it.

The American Dream has been something long running in the United States. There are many characteristics that make it exclusive to the U.S. hence the term "The American Dream." Variables like our laws, our government, and our country's mindset grant the people the right to become successful in any way possible. Our laws do not prohibit certain races, genders, or sexualities from doing anything anyone else can do unlike other countries. Our Government does not oppress our people in fear of being overrun because our government is run by the people. And lastly, our country's mindset was formed when the country itself was formed as America was meant to be a land of prosperity and equality for all.

The American Dream was depicted in many of the stories we read this year in English Three. My favorite story that we read which related to The American Dream was "Of Mice and Men." This story showed how two, below average guys wanted success, worked hard for it, and basically attained it. This was my favorite story relating to The American Dream because it could be argued both ways. In the end of the story, Lennie caused himself too much trouble and ruined his chances of becoming completely successful. Some could argue that not everyone can achieve The American Dream since Lennie didn't. but The American Dream must also be attained within the laws of the land. I would argue that George and Lennie were achieving The American Dream since the only reason they lost their potential success was because Lennie broke the law. George said "For two bits I'd shove out of here. If we can get jus' a few dollars in the poke we'll shove off and go up the American River and pan gold. We can make maybe a couple of dollars a day there, and we might hit a pocket", so he wanted to find a way to make a lot of money one way or the other (Shmoop Editorial Team).

In conclusion The American Dream was a vital theme in the stories that we read in English three this year. The American Dream, which is the the belief that success can be achieved by anyone in anything as long as they are dedicated and work hard.
