An Analysis of the Different Opinions of the Federalists and the Democratic Republicans in the United States
The people of the United States had very different opinions on how government should be run, these differences in opinion caused a split between the people and the government. By the 1790's two political parties formed, The Federalists and The Democratic Republicans. The Federalists were made up of mostly northern people, merchants and people of wealth, who supported the industrial economy. The industrial and trade economy was still developing which made this idea a little unreliable.
Alexander Hamilton was the leader of this political party, he as well as his followers, wanted a strong central government. They felt that with a strong central government there would be more stability within the states. They did not view the constitution as vital to the survival of the country. If it did not come into direct violation of the constitution then there was not a problem. The Federalists were also in support of taxes, Hamilton saw the taxes as a way to decrease the debt and pay for things needed in their own government. They obtained their ideas from the British and wanted to continue relations with them feeling that it would help them much more than having them as enemies. The Federalist did not have a strict view of the constitution because they wanted the government to have more power than some wanted. The Democratic Republicans have a very opposite view on government than the Federalists which is the reason of the split.
The Democratic Republicans were made up of mostly agricultural people such as farmers. Their social structure was much more diverse than the Federalists. The Democratic Republicans supported agriculture more because at the time it was much more reliable than the just developing industrial times. Thomas Jefferson, the man who led them, supported the more common people and was anti-tax. They felt that taxing was just another idea of the British was not necessary to survive. The Democratic Republicans felt they made enough money that taxing was not needed. They feared the government, because of the damage the British had done, having too much power so the people wanted to have most of it. The Democratic Republicans feared the government so much that they viewed the constitution in a strict manner, they did not want the government having any more power than already given.

The government could not do anything strictly prohibiting them in the constitution either. The Democratic Republicans supported the French as allies; they strongly disliked the British and the French made them feel a little more supported than they ever did. These differences between the two parties are what made the parties form. Citizens of the U.S. had opposing views on goverment. These differences caused the development of two political parties that change how govermment was run today. If the Democratic Republicans and Federalists had never formed we would not have the same evolved government we have presently.
