Essays on Cell Phone

Cell phones today are a way for people to communicate and reach out to others. Cell phones can be lifesavers, but they can also be life takers. Texting and driving, or even talking on the phone while driving can be hazardous because all of your focus is no longer just on the road. I feel that having my smartphone in my car while I’m driving could be a distraction but I grew up watching my dad constantly almost crashing his car, putting me and my family in danger just so he could send an “okay” text. This alone keeps me from texting or even talking on the phone while driving. I feel like receiving my first smartphone at the age that I did caused me to have an attachment to my phone. I sometimes find it tempting to hold off on reading a text that I just got while I’m driving. What I do is I’ll wait till I get to a “fresh” red light and then I check my phone at the light if I just can’t wait.

I received my first cell phone when I was 10 years old. I started with a track phone so I could make calls in the case of an emergency at school. When I was 12 I then updated to a smartphone which was an Apple iPhone. I was infatuated with this cell phone, and I had to carry it everywhere I went. If I forgot to grab my phone before I left the house I would feel lonely and sad without it. I loved that on my phone I could watch YouTube videos, play games, etc. I had so many unlimited options of what I could do on my phone so when I didn’t have my phone it felt like all of my options were gone. I would’ve rather socialized with people over the phone than in person.

I can honestly say that my phone impacts my life day-to-day by making me more introverted. Before smartphones were as advanced as they are now I was more social and outgoing. I would sometimes get bored with being on my phone because I would do the same things. Times have changed because now they're tons of apps and endless things to do on smartphones. I have this problem where I would hear my phone get a text message and when would I look at it and no one would have texted me. I have a crazy attachment to my phone that could have rooted in having a phone at a semi-early age. Cellphones can be a very positive thing, but it can also quickly turn into something negative.
